Thursday blackout to affect parts of 7 counties

Kenya Power has announced that several parts of the country will experience power interruptions on Thursday, October 23, 2025, as part of an ongoing maintenance exercise.

In a statement shared on its official X account on Wednesday, October 22, the company said the temporary blackouts are aimed at improving the reliability of electricity supply and enhancing system performance.

“Good Evening. The following areas are on a scheduled power maintenance tomorrow (23.10.2025). We regret any inconvenience this may cause during the operation,” the statement read.

According to Kenya Power, the planned outages will affect customers in Nairobi, Central Rift, Western, South Nyanza, Kiambu, and Coast regions.

Nairobi County

In Nairobi, the blackout is expected to run from 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., affecting areas such as Bendera Lane, Eastleigh, and parts of Karen. Other affected places include Hombe Road, Nairobi National Polytechnic, Don Bosco High School, Kipande Athumani Street, Mweni Road, Barakaat Hospital, Muratina Street, and Ushirika Estate. In Karen, residents along Rhino Park Road, Kerarapon Road, and around Karinde Shell Petrol Station will also be affected.

Central Rift Valley region

In the Central Rift region, areas within Narok County, including Olpisiai, GK Prisons, Kilgoris, Lolgorian, Mararianda, Kichwa Tembo, and Mara Engai, will experience outages from 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.

Busia County

Residents of Busia County in the Western region will also be affected, particularly those in Matayos. The outage there will run between 8:00 a.m. and 5:00 p.m., covering Iwanya Girls, Matayos Youth Polytechnic, and Matayos Health Centre.

Migori County

In Migori County (South Nyanza region), parts of Macalder, Okenge, and Owiro will go without power from 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., including institutions like Macalder Polytechnic and Okenge Secondary School.

Kiambu County

In Kiambu County, areas around Thogoto, YMCA, and Broadways will be affected. The blackout will impact schools such as Alliance Boys, Alliance Girls, and Mt. Kenya University.

Coast Region

At the Coast, power interruptions will hit parts of Mombasa and Kilifi counties, including Vikwatani, Mtopanga, and Watamu Village.

Kenya Power has urged customers to plan accordingly as it works to improve service delivery nationwide.
