‘They were usual faces expected to go’ – MP Amisi on church leaders meeting Ruto at State House
Saboti Member of Parliament (MP) Caleb Amisi has hailed the Anglican, Catholic and others churches that refused to meet President William Ruto on Wednesday, December 11, 2024.
In his statement, Amisi lauded the aforementioned churches for standing in their truth and not relenting from their mission.
“The church leaders who went to Statehouse today were usual faces, and they were expected to go. In fact, Kenyans had begun to wonder why they were late?
“For Catholic ,Anglican, and others who stand for the truth, please continue. A nation needs steady, trustworthy, principled, statesman-sober leadership and spiritual guidance to stand among the community of Nation. Do not relent. Kenya needs a renaissance!” Amisi said.
Amisi’s comments come after church leaders drawn from the Evangelical and Pentecostal churches met the president.
The clergy led by Redeemed Gospel Church Presiding Bishop Kepha Omae met the president at State House in Nairobi.
Issuing a statement after the meeting, Ruto declared that the church has always worked together with the government, reiterating their commitment to continue with the partnership.
“Religious faiths and the State serve the same people and have always worked together in ensuring national cohesion and providing social services, including education, health and helping the vulnerable. We commit to maintain this partnership,” Ruto stated.
The meeting follows sustained criticism over what the church described us poor leadership and governance by the Kenya Kwanza administration.
The churches decried that President Ruth was leading the country in the wrong direction and returned donations made by the president and other leaders.
