Senator Thang’wa urges MPs to consider views of Kenyans before approving nominated CSs
Kiambu Senator Karungo wa Thang’wa has urged Members of Parliament (MPs) to carefully vet the newly nominated Cabinet Secretaries (CSs) before approving them.
Speaking during the consecration and installation ceremony of Bishop Samuel Karimi held in Mwea, Kirinyaga County on Saturday, July 20, 2024, the legislator noted that the MPs should prioritise the views of citizens before recommending the nominees for appointment.
The senator who was accompanied by Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua stated that considering the views of the people is the only sure way of avoiding further protests, adding that the country has several individuals who can be selected for the positions.
“Ni jukumu ya wabunge, wakipitisha yeyote yule waziri, waskize raia kwanza, raia wakisema hivi, msitake tuende tena maneno ya reject Finance Bill. Wakisema reject hio, hio mnareject na tunasonga mbele. Wakenya ni 50 million, huyu akirejectiwa tunaleta mwengine, mpaka tulete wa mwisho ambaye nyinyi wote mtakubali,” he said.

The senator also urged Kenyans to continue supporting leaders to help them deliver their mandated roles.
Thang’wa’s remarks come a day after President William Ruto announced his first batch of CS nominees. At the time, the president stated that the development marks a significant change in steering the country towards the right direction.
“I have started the process of forming a new, broad-based cabinet to assist me in driving the urgently needed and irreversible transformation of our country. I hereby nominate the following first batch of 11 individuals for consideration and approval by the National Assembly for appointment as Cabinet Secretaries and Attorney General,” Ruto said on Friday, July 19, 2024.
This came a week after the Head of State dissolved his cabinet after weeks of intense protests by the Kenyan youth.
