Tegla Loroupe to be feted at Senate’s global leadership gala

The Senate has partnered with an international organization to host a global conference to discuss tough issues facing modern society.

Leaders drawn from government, legislature, academia, private sector, diplomatic and donor communities in attendance at the Tällberg Foundation workshop that kicked off on Monday.

The two-day event, whose theme will be “New Thinking for a New World” is being held at Strathmore University Business School, according to Senate Speaker Kenneth Lusaka.

Lusaka said the forum will provide a platform to hold talks on how to find sustainable and practical solutions to some of the key problems affecting the modern world.

“Apart from having conversations that challenge the old thinking about the problems affecting modern World, the workshop will also bring a global network to Kenya,” said the Senate Speaker.

He was accompanied by the chairperson of Tällberg Foundation Alan Stoga and the Dean, Strathmore University Business School, Dr George Njenga.

On Sunday, Mr Lusaka told journalists that the event will culminate in the Tällberg / Eliasson Global Leadership Prize 2019 winner’s ceremony that will be held at a city hotel.

 Deputy President William Ruto will be chief guest at the awards gala, where individuals who have positively impacted society will be recognized.

Legendary athlete Tegla Loroupe, who is also a global spokeswoman for peace, women’s rights and education is among the 2019 laureates that will be feted at the gala.

Others are: Anne Goldfeld, an American physician-scientist working on delivery of care for infectious diseases, Saul Griffith, an Australian scientist and entrepreneur focused on urgent and scalable solutions to achieve a clean energy and  Faustin Linyekula, a Congolese dancer, choreographer, director and storyteller who pushes audiences to understand their history.
