Team on track to ensure transfer of devolved functions beats deadline
The completion of transfer of devolved functions to county governments has gained momentum with the Intergovernmental Relations Technical Committee (IGRTC) fast tracking the process to beat the February deadline.
According to IGRTC chair Kithinji Kiragu, the committee has managed to unbundle a huge chunk of the function from the national to county governments and is working towards finalising the report before presenting it to the head of state.
“The President had given us 60 days to make sure that all pending devolved functions are transferred to counties and we shall meet that by the end of February,” he said.
Urged stakeholders
The Chair hailed the support and cooperation exuded between the two levels of government in different sectors, urging all stakeholders to adopt the same model to avoid conflicts that may hamper service delivery.
“We have seen the national and county governments work together in the ongoing affordable housing and the universal health care programmes and this is the way to go,” he said.
Of the pending functions, Kithinji noted that the committee is expediting the process to ensure all matters are resolved before February 29.
