Teachers Service Commission (TSC) and key education sector stakeholders are in talks to ensure schools in rural areas are connected to fast Internet.
Bungoma county TSC director Japheth Kariuki said the move would enable students to benefit from virtual learning plan launched by the teachers employer last week.
The new teaching model will address teachers shortage challenge through the introduction of online lessons in schools.
In the new model, a single teacher will simultaneously conduct lessons in several schools via Zoom.
Kariuki said yesterday Bungoma county needs more than 3,000 teachers saying that the online teaching plan gives learners access to quality education especially during disruptions like the one caused by the Covid-19 pandemic.
“Teachers shortage crisis is a national issue but I think with rolling out of virtual lesson plans, it would solve the problem to give learners access to quality education,” he said.
The official said so far 163,000 tutors, who will conduct the virtual lessons, have been trained to offer the online lessons.
The commission also said the teaching model will ensure prudent utilisation of human resources.
