Suspected fake gold dealer arrested at last
Police have finally arrested a suspected international fake gold dealer Andre Ishikunga Kongolo alias Joseph Kimo.
The suspect has been on the run for several months, after allegedly conning a foreign investor of Sh940 million.
He was arrested in Nairobi yesterday and is set to be charged with several counts of defrauding foreign investors by falsely purporting to sell them gold.
Kongolo, a citizen of the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) has been conducting business in Kenya and Uganda using a false name of Joseph Kimo.
The Directorate of Criminal Investigations Special Services Unit (SSU) said the man recently acquired Kenyan citizenship through his wife, who hails from Migori County.
SSU boss Pius Gitari confirmed the arrest and said Kongolo will be arraigned in Nairobi this morning.
“We are at the moment with him for processing and taking of finger prints ahead of charging him,” Gitari told the People Daily.
It is alleged that Kongolo, who has several criminal records under the said false name, has been meeting unsuspecting buyers in posh hotels within the city.
