The prime suspect behind the robbery and murder of an 85-year-old man and his son in Ekerenyo, Nyamira County on July 5 has been arrested.

On Monday, the suspect was arrested and crucial evidence, including cash and mobile hones, was recovered.

James Momanyi Nyamweno and his son Kevin Makori, 18, were abducted by unknown people on July 3 and two days later, their mutilated bodies were found in a bush.

Makori was a Form One student at Ikonge Secondary school.

Investigations revealed that the killers withdrew Sh295,000 from their accounts using Momanyi’s phone.

Evans Sagero Martin, 36, was on Monday arrested within Ikonge area by detectives from the DCI’s Special Services Unit and their Nyamira North counterparts.

“Upon his arrest, three mobile phones belonging to the deceased who was brutally murdered were recovered. The deceased’s Equitel line was used to withdraw and steal Sh295,000. Part of the money (Sh50 000) was recovered from the house of the suspect,” police said.

Tortured

Detectives also recovered Tecno and Bontel keypad phones, each with two sim cards.

The bodies of the two victims were found dumped at a thicket in Ngoino Tea estate on July 5.

“The victims sustained deep cut wounds on the back of their heads and their eyes were pierced with other indications that they were tortured,” police said.

“It was established that the two were last seen at Ikonge on July 3 at around 3.30pm before they disappeared. It is suspected they were murdered the same day,” detectives said.
