Sudi sets up a watching zone ahead of Raila’s burial
By Lutta Njomo, October 19, 2025Kapseret Member of Parliament Oscar Sudi has erected big screens at the Eldoret Sports Club for residents to follow the state funeral of the late former Prime Minister Raila Amolo Odinga live from Bondo.
The lawmaker has also put up tents and chairs at the facility for Raila supporters from the region to follow the live proceedings of the final farewell.
In a statement on Saturday, October 18, 2025, the outspoken lawmaker invited residents at the facility to watch the state funeral.
“I cordially invite the public to celebrate the life and legacy of the former Prime Minister Raila Odinga,” part of his poster read in part.
“Let us gather to pay our last respects on big screens to follow burial proceedings live from Bondo,” it added.

Fare hike
This comes even as thousands continue to throng Bondo ahead of the burial. Airfares were hiked, and even Kenya Airways was compelled to increase flights due to the demand from people wishing to pay their last respects to the fallen hero.
The demand for matatus also peaked from Friday, October 17, 2025, ahead of Raila’s final journey to Bondo.
Sudi’s act is expected to reduce population pressure in Bondo ahead of the burial on Sunday, October 19, 2025. It is also meant to allow those who failed to raise the fare charges to follow the proceedings.
Earlier in his tribute, Sudi described the late former prime minister as a father figure and a mentor.

“Raila truly believed Kenya was bigger than him, and that is why he always put the nation first,” Sudi said.
He praised Odinga as a wise, selfless leader who remained down-to-earth despite his stature. Sudi recalled that Odinga would often take calls from ordinary citizens, a sign of his humility and connection with the people.
