“My bedroom has just been hit, it is now 8.27am. It was hit at around 8.24am. Luckily, I was in the sitting room by then,” said a stranded Kenyan in the troubled Khartoum, Sudan as he showed the damage.
The man, who says he is lucky to be alive, stated that it was a dire situation because even electricity and water were cut off.

He is among the over 3,000 Kenyans that the Government says are stuck in Sudan as the fierce clashes escalated for the third day running, following a power struggle between Sudan’s army and paramilitary group the Rapid Support Forces (RSF), erupted in the country’s capital city.

Foreign Affairs Cabinet Secretary, Alfred Mutua said the Government is seeking ways to rescue the affected Kenyans and bring them home.

He made the remarks as he called out unregistered Kenyans to do so with the Embassy in Khartoum.
“We have a big problem in Sudan, we are looking at reports and bombing is escalating. We have about 3,000 Kenyans stuck in Sudan, they are scared, they are in their homes nobody is leaving their house,” said the CS.

He assured Kenyans that the Government had held talks with Kenya Airways and are ready if things get out hand to bring them back.
Easily traced

He also made a call to Kenyans abroad to always register with respective embassies in case of such eventualities for them to be easily traced. “We are asking Kenyans wherever you are, whenever you go overseas…please register with the embassies because you do not know what will happen,” said Mutua.

“For Kenyans registered with the embassies, we are in touch with them but those who did not register, we have a problem finding them. We are going to give a number so that is you have someone there they can call so that we can know the status of Kenyans,” the CS sated.
