State to list criteria for Grade Six placement

By , July 14, 2022

Education Cabinet Secretary Prof George Magoha yesterday said parents will finally know criterion to be used in the placement of their children to Junior Secondary School (JSS) next Friday.

Magoha said the guidelines will be released on July 22 when he launches the new Kenya National Examinations Council (Knec) headquarters in South C.

“I said I would pronounce myself in three weeks; that will be July 22. We we shall tell you precisely what we are going to do with our children,” the CS said.

He was speaking yesterday after a ground-breaking ceremony for construction of phase two Competency Based Curriculum classrooms at Pumwani Boys in Nairobi.

He said private schools, especially in Nairobi, are progressing well in establishing JSS classrooms, noting that the ministry has so far cleared 20 institutions in primary for registration and another 70 will be done by the weekend.

He said the Government will continue to encourage private schools and register them, however, they will not give them capitation.

“The Government is spending 25.9 per cent of the national budget on education in the public sector and there is no way it will give capitation for private secondary schools,” Magoha said.
