State pushes for preventive, promotive care
The government has intensified its push for preventive and promotive healthcare as part of the broader Universal Health Coverage (UHC) agenda.
Speaking in Kilifi county after meeting deputy governor Flora Mbetsa Chebule and County Executive Committee Member of Health Peterson Mwarogo,
Public Health Principal Secretary, Mary Muthoni called for increased budget allocations to preventive and promotive health in order for the ministry to deliver the Universal Health Coverage (UHC) agenda. She stated that every dollar invested in prevention can save nine dollars in curative healthcare
Treated mosquito nets
She emphasized the significant strides made in public health through the distribution of long-lasting insecticidal treated mosquito nets.
“We have achieved remarkable progress in public health by distributing long-lasting insecticidal treated mosquito nets in Kilifi county and across the nation,” she stated.
Ms Muthoni noted that a total of 8,973,904 nets have been distributed, benefiting 17,418,202 individuals in 14 counties, since November 2023.
She also stated that 1,121,621 nets have been allocated for a population of 1.7 million in Kilifi county, with 287,985 households set to receive them.
“This initiative underscores our commitment to curbing malaria transmission and improving overall well-being, with a focus on safeguarding vulnerable populations and ensuring fair access to preventive measures,” PS Muthoni added.
She pointed out the need to evaluate healthcare programs, addressing challenges, and strategizing improvements in healthcare delivery.
“Emphasizing preventive and promotive healthcare, we discussed initiatives such as distributing treated mosquito nets to combat malaria,” Muthoni noted.
The PS stated that the Ministry of Health is working closely with county governments and development partners to enhance preventive and promotive healthcare, particularly targeting tropical diseases.
