South Gem MCA Brian Obiero Anyango cheated death after he was stabbed five times at a funeral in Gem on Saturday.

Obiero alias Otuom Polo was allegedly stabbed in the back, abdomen, and stomach. The incident happened at a burial of a retired teacher at Pap Kapinda.

The MCA’s supporters and that of his rivals Okun Abanda are said to have clashed before he was stabbled multiple times.

Good Samaritans offered first aid before rushing him to Aga Khan Hospital in Kisumu, where he was immediately admitted and taken to the theatre for surgery

Medics who spoke to the press said that they attended to the MCA and he was out of danger and recuperating well.

“At the moment, we can only say, he is in stable condition. We have taken him to theatre for surgery and to see if one of his kidneys were affected by the sharp object or if he may have any other internal injuries, ‘’ said a surgeon on anonymity.

Political hooliganism

Gem leaders strongly condemned the incident terming it as unfortunate. Led by area MP Elisha Odhiambo, the leaders cautioned politicians to stop political hooliganism.

“This is really bad. We are calling on the security apparatus to arrest the suspects,’’ Odhiambo said.
The MP said the suspected goons behind the attacks were reportedly known and should therefore face the law.

Security was heightened at the hospital as word went round that he was admitted at the facility on Saturday evening.
