Spring Valley robbery incident: 3 more persons of interest apprehended, 2 firearms recovered
By David Nthua, July 21, 2026Police have apprehended three more persons of interest in connection with the Spring Valley restaurant robbery.
The operation was conducted in Githurai Mwiki, Kiambu County. Two loaded firearms were recovered from a residence in Githurai Kimbo.
The National Police Service announced the development in a statement shared on X on Tuesday, July 21, 2026.
Loaded firearms recovered
According to the NPS, the three attempted to escape when officers moved in.
“Police officers conducted an operation in Githurai Mwiki, Kiambu County, leading to the arrest of three suspects believed to be linked to a series of robbery incidents within Nairobi and its environs,” the NPS statement reads in part.
“During the operation, the suspects attempted to flee but were successfully apprehended.”
Officers subsequently searched a residence in Githurai Kimbo associated with the three persons of interest.
“A subsequent search at a residence in Githurai Kimbo associated with the suspects led to the recovery of two firearms, each loaded with ammunition,” the NPS stated.
Crime Scene Investigations officers processed the premises. The firearms and other recovered exhibits were secured for forensic examination.
The three persons of interest remain in police custody as investigations continue.
Previous Spring Valley operation
The investigation followed a robbery at Chaiiwali Café along General Mathenge Road in Spring Valley on July 4, 2026.
CCTV footage captured armed men confronting customers before escaping on motorcycles.
People Daily Digital previously reported that two motorcycles stopped outside the restaurant at about 10:34 pm. Two armed men entered the premises and moved from table to table.
Seven mobile phones and a laptop were taken. Gunshots were also discharged during the incident.
“Preliminary investigations have linked the suspects to a recent armed robbery incident that was captured on CCTV footage, in which armed assailants robbed members of the public at a popular restaurant along General Mathenge Road in Spring Valley before escaping on motorcycles,” the NPS said.
On July 13, police traced another person of interest to a house in Joska, Machakos County.
Police reported that the man opened fire after officers ordered him to surrender. He was fatally shot when officers returned fire.
A Beretta pistol, ammunition, spent cartridges and three mobile phones were recovered from the house.
People Daily Digital reported that the firearm was submitted for ballistic examination.
