Speaker Kingi mourns CS Davis Chirchir’s father in emotional tribute

Senate Speaker Amason Kingi has joined leaders in mourning the death of Mzee Edwin Koech, father of Roads and Transport Cabinet Secretary Davis Chirchir.

In a statement shared on Friday, April 24, 2026, Kingi conveyed his condolences to Chirchir and his family, describing the late Koech as a respected figure in his community.

“We continue to condole with our brother, Transport Cabinet Secretary Davis Chirchir, and his entire family, following the passing on of his beloved father, Mzee Edwin Koech,” he said.

“Until his demise, Mzee Edwin Koech was respected and admired for his kindness, wisdom, and love for community empowerment values that he has ably bequeathed to his posterity. We pray that his soul rests in eternal peace,” he added.

Leaders send condolences

Kingi was accompanied by several leaders during a condolence visit to the family, including Members of Parliament Farah Maalim, Adan Keynan, Maryanne Kitany and Mohamed Abdikheir, as well as Public Service Commission member Joyce Korir.

The passing of Mzee Koech was earlier confirmed by Interior Principal Secretary Raymond Omollo, who also sent a message of condolence to the family.

“My deepest condolences to Cabinet Secretary Davis Chirchir on the passing of your dear father, Mr. Edwin Koech. May you and your family be upheld with grace, strength, and peace as you navigate this profound loss,” Omollo said.

Tributes highlight legacy

Leaders who have paid tribute described the late Koech as a mentor and community figure. Senate Majority Leader Aaron Cheruiyot said he was “a strong guiding pillar and a father figure who provided mentorship beyond his immediate and extended family.”

Bomet Woman Representative Linet Chepkorir also sent her condolences, expressing solidarity with the family during the mourning period.

Former Cabinet Secretary Charles Keter and Belgut MP Nelson Koech described the deceased as a community leader who contributed to the well-being of others.

Family members and leaders continue to gather to mourn and honour the life of Mzee Edwin Koech as burial arrangements get underway.
