Sonko files fresh petition seeking to disqualify 3 judges from hearing his case
Nairobi governor, Mike Sonko, has once again filed a fresh petition seeking to inhibit three High Court judges from hearing his case.
Sonko filed the application through his lawyer Harrison Kinyanjui and cited bias by the judges namely Mumbi Ngugi, Grace Ngenye and John Onyiengo
Justice Mumbi barred Samburu governor, Moses Kasaine, from accessing his office when he was charged with a graft case, a ruling that was replicated by Judge Ngenye who prohibited Kiambu’s Ferdinand Waititu.
The embattled Nairobi governor also asked that Judge Onyiengo be recused from his case since he handles the anti-corruption divisions
Sonko’s lawyer argued that when President Uhuru Kenyatta and his Deputy William Ruto were charged at the International Court of Justice (ICC), they were not forced to leave office. Sonko case will come for mentioned on 25th January 2020 the Governor is out on 15 million cash bail or 30 million bond.
“The anti-corruption court has declared the county as a scene of crime contrary to the law and the constitution,” he said.
The embattled county chief also sought to have the chief magistrate Douglas Ogot’s order that barred him from accessing his office reviewed
The Ward Reps were from both sides of the political divide and among key issues they deliberated was on the impeachment motion of the governor but Speaker Elachi did not extend house sittings allowing MCAs to go for recess
Led by Minority Leader David Mberia, the lawmakers maintained they were going to send the embattled county chief home to prevent a leadership crisis, but majority of NASA under ODM MCAs who support Governor are oppose to City Chief impeachment.
