Sofapaka complete signing of Kibwage from KCB

Former Kenyan Premier League (KPL) champions Sofapaka have completed the signing of highly rated international defender Michel Kibwage from KCB.

The bankers captain joins the 2009 league winners on a two year deal with a signing fee rumoured to be around Sh1 million with a six-figure monthly salary.

Sofapaka’s Team Manager Hillary Echesa confirmed the move to People Sport as he termed it a ‘Big catch.’

Kibwage becomes the fifth player to be signed by the former champions who are under pressure to end their trophy drought after they finished the last season in an unfamiliar 10th position.

Others who have already joined Sofapaka are international midfielder Roy Okal who arrived from Mathare United, goalkeeper Kevin Omondi who signed from Wazito, defender Michael Bodo who joined from Kariobangi Sharks and Rwanda’s international defender Isaac Mutima who has joined from Rwandese giants APR.

Kibwage’s arrival coupled by the signing of Mutima from APR, means that Faina Jacobs, Willis Ouma and Stephen Otieno will all have to fight for a starting position when league action resumes, since all the five players are central defenders.

“We are targeting a top two finish in the league. Currently we are doing selective but very effective recruitment that will see us achieve our goals,” Echesa said.

He added: “We are also about to seal a deal for Nigerian international forward Mike Karamor from Atletico Club.”
