Mumias East Member of Parliament (MP) Peter Salasya has promised to face the 100-meter race at the ongoing East African Community (EAC) Inter-Parliamentary games in Mombasa, while fresh and sober.

The lawmaker in a video shared via his official Instagram account on Thursday, December 12, 2024, stated that he will not be going out to party ahead of the race that is scheduled for Friday, December 13, 2024.

Unlike the last 1500-meter race that saw him almost loose breath, Salasya says his opponents will be in for a rude shock, as he has been exercising.

“Sijakunywako kitu chochote. Unajua sikuwa nafanya mazoezi, but mimi ni runner, 100 meters, short races, mimi ni number one. Walinieka kwa long races and I had not practiced na tena ile siku nilikuwa nimepiga sherehe. Hakuna mambo ya sherehe leo, today am a very good boy,” Salasya stated.

The lawmaker is eyeing the top position in the upcoming short races, describing the 100-meter and 200-meter races as his favourites.

Salasya’s 1500m experience

Salsya on December 9, 2024, represented the Kenyan Parliament in the 1500-meter race that pit him against Uganda and Tanzanian opponents.

The youthful lawmaker struggled in the last lap but managed to finish in the third position.

While commenting on his 1500-meter race experience, Salasya regretted going out to party just a day to the race.

Taking to his official Instagram account shortly after failing to secure a win, Salasya stated that he would have spent more time practicing than partying.

The youthful lawmaker stated that he had lost all his energy in the last lap, making it hard to beat his competitors from Uganda.

However, Salasya promised to claim victory in the short races of 200m and 100m.

“I tried but gas akh .I wish I couldn’t have gone out yesterday and did more practice 😪 last lap wasted me I lost all my gas, but I promise them a run for their gas in short races,” Salasya stated.

In the men’s 1500m, Uganda continued its strong showing, taking three of the top four positions, while Kenya secured 3rd and 7th positions.

The East African Legislative Assembly (EALA), Tanzania and Rwanda followed in the rankings.

However, Kenya claimed the coveted 400m relay title.
