On Sunday, August 10, 2025, Nairobi Senator Edwin Sifuna joined the family of Kisii Governor Simba Arati to mourn the death of his sister, Isabella, who is set to be laid to rest later in the day in Isinya, Kajiado County.

Sifuna attended the funeral service where friends, relatives, and leaders gathered to pay their last respects. In some moments captured during the ceremony, he was seen sharing light conversations with Governor Arati as the proceedings went on.

“Happening….joining the family of my brother Simba Arati to celebrate the life of his sister Isabella as they lay her to rest in Isinya, Kajiado County,” Sifuna stated.

Her demise

The news of her demise was released by the party. Till now, the Kisii governor is yet to release any statement concerning his sister’s death. ODM, in its statement, went ahead to brief the country on the burial preparations.

The party also went ahead to stand in solidarity with Simba Arati and his family during the grieving moment.

“We commiserate with our DPL @SimbaArati following the loss of his sister Isabella Arati. Burial is scheduled for tomorrow (Sunday, 10/8) at her farm in Isinya, Kajiado County, next to Entarakwet Hotel. As a party, we stand with the Arati family during this period of grief,” ODM stated.

The Raila Odinga-led party did not, however, give the circumstances surrounding Isabella’s death.

Simba Arati

Arati became the Orange party’s deputy party leader in 2024, where he was picked alongside his Mombasa counterpart Abdulswamad Nassir and Vihiga Senator Godfrey Osotsi.

The party also retained Nairobi Senator Edwin Sifuna as secretary general and the party spokesperson. Homa Bay Governor Gladys Wanga was picked to replace John Mbadi as the national chairman.

The changes were made during the Central Management Committee meeting chaired by party leader Raila Odinga at a time when he was preparing to take a stab at the African Union Commission (AUC) chairmanship bid.

Despite him holding a top position in the party, his recent political moves seem to be shifting from ODM to embracing former interior minister Fred Matiang’i, who is also eyeing the country’s top seat.
