Senator Edwin Sifuna has taken a firm stance on the recent tragedy in Mukuru slums, labelling the situation as unacceptable, calling for a thorough inquiry into the events that have unfolded.

Sharing on his X account on July 12, 2024, the senator cited the recent deaths and abductions as the primary reason for calling for Police IG Koome’s resignation.

“This is why we called for a thorough investigation into reports of massacres in Nairobi and its environs. We have today called for the sacking of the IG of Police and the Nairobi police commander because they will impede the truth from coming out. This is unacceptable,” Sifuna noted.

Sifuna joined many Kenyans including activists in calling out the government to intervene in the recent Mukuru slums tragedy, where nine human bodies were retrieved from a dumpsite in the area.

Investigation begins

Decomposing bodies were found stuffed into sacks by the youth from the Mukuru neighbourhood. They discovered the unknown mutilated bodies at about midday on Friday, July 12 2024.

Police said some of the bodies were fresh while others were decomposed after being wrapped in sacks and dumped in the area.

During their preliminary investigation, the police found out that eight of the bodies were women.

According to witnesses and police, some of the victims were burned and seemed to have been killed somewhere else before being dumped near Kware Police Station.

Netizens believed that the bodies were a result of heinous murders committed by unknown people, as in the recent weeks there had been several cases of abductions reported during recent anti-government protests.
