Sifuna: Kisumu residents have already identified Osotsi attackers
By Emmanuel Rono, April 9, 2026Nairobi Senator Edwin Sifuna has intensified pressure on police, saying residents of Kisumu have already done most of the work in identifying those behind the attack on Vihiga Senator Godfrey Osotsi.
Taking to his X account on Thursday, April 9, 2026, Sifuna praised locals for stepping forward with crucial information, noting that both the suspected attackers and their alleged financier are already known.

“The good people of Kisumu have done half the job by themselves. They have identified the goons who attacked Osotsi and their financier. The Police have this information,” Sifuna said.
Fault on police
Sifuna, however, faulted the police investigating the attack for what he termed as unacceptable inaction despite the availability of key leads to the persons of interest.

“This inaction on the part of @PoliceKE is unacceptable,” Sifuna said.
DCI condemns the attack
The Directorate of Criminal Investigation (DCI) posted on their X account on Wednesday, April 8, 2026, condemning an attack on Vihiga Senator Godfrey Osotsi and assuring the public that investigations are ongoing to identify those responsible and bring them to justice.
“The Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) strongly condemns the brazen and cowardly attack on Vihiga Senator Hon. Godfrey Osotsi that occurred at Java House-West End Mall in Kisumu,” DCI wrote.
The officers noted that the motive behind the attack remains unknown, but detectives are following up on critical leads obtained from a detailed review of CCTV footage from the scene.

“At this stage, the motive behind the attack has not been established. Our detectives are actively pursuing very crucial leads following a detailed forensic analysis of the available CCTV footage,” the statement reads.
Eye on the police
In a statement posted on Thursday, April 9, 2026, Orengo said he was disappointed by the lack of progress at Kisumu Central Police Station, despite the availability of evidence.

“Deeply disappointed by the lack of progress at Kisumu Central Police Station following the targeted attack on Senator Godfrey Osotsi. Despite clear images of the attackers circulating, no arrests have been made,” Orengo said.
The governor raised concerns about possible interference in the case, suggesting that the delay may not be accidental.
