Shun talks on alleged plan to split Murang’a, Kangata urges residents

Murang’a Senator Irungu Kang’ata has urged residents to ignore debate aimed at dividing the county into North and South regions, warning it will be counterproductive.

He said some leaders have been driving the narrative to divide residents for their own political interests.

Debate on the two regions has been on for a couple of years with the battle being on which side should produce the governor and senator.

Currently, the northern side produced the senator and governor, a scenario that has irked those in the southern region who are determined to produce the next governor.

Kang’ata, however, says the electorate should not be coerced to choose a leader along this line, noting that once one is elected, they serve the entire county.   “What matters is an individual leader’s agenda and vision for the people,” he said.

While on a meet-the-people tour, Kang’ata, who is vying for the governor’s seat, said it is important for locals to ensure they evaluate leaders before deciding whom to vote for.

“I urge the residents not to be convinced by anyone to vote for them depending on which side they come from but instead look at their capacity to serve them,” he added.
