SHA suspends MP Shah Hospital from provider panel pending investigations
By Ndiritu Wanjiru, June 24, 2026The Social Health Authority (SHA) has temporarily suspended M.P. Shah Hospital from its panel of contracted healthcare providers, effective June 23, 2026, pending the conclusion of ongoing investigations.
In a public notice issued on Wednesday, June 24, 2026, SHA has informed beneficiaries and the general public that the suspension affects services offered under several healthcare funds, including the Primary Healthcare Fund (PHCF), Social Health Insurance Fund (SHIF), Emergency, Chronic and Critical Illness Fund (ECCIF), and the Public Officers Medical Scheme Fund (POMSF).
“The Social Health Authority (SHA) informs beneficiaries and the public that M.P. Shah Hospital has been temporarily suspended from the SHA panel of contracted healthcare providers, with effect from June 23, 2026, pending the conclusion of investigations. The suspension applies to services under the following funds,” the SHA statement read.

According to the authority, patients who had already been admitted to M.P. Shah Hospital before the suspension took effect will continue receiving care until the completion of their current treatment episode and discharge.
However, beneficiaries seeking new admissions, follow-up treatment, or any other services during the suspension period have been advised to seek care from other SHA-contracted healthcare providers.
“The current list of contracted facilities is available at www.sha.go.ke and through the Afya Yangu platform,” the notice stated.
SHA further noted that beneficiaries requiring assistance with continuity of care or referral services can contact the authority through its toll-free number, 147.
The authority said the temporary suspension is aimed at safeguarding accountability and ensuring access to quality healthcare services while investigations are ongoing.
SHA Chief Executive Officer Dr Mercy Mwangangi, in the statement, has thanked beneficiaries for their cooperation and understanding, reiterating the authority’s commitment to maintaining high standards within the healthcare system.
Ruto on rogue hospitals
The statement from the organisation stems from a directive by President William Ruto, who vowed to bring order to Kenya’s health sector by targeting fraudulent practices that have drained billions of shillings from public coffers.
Speaking on Wednesday, August 27, 2027, Ruto declared that the ongoing digitisation of the Social Health Authority (SHA) will not only expose corruption but also ensure accountability across the health system.
“Ile wizi iliangisha NHIF mpaka kukawa na deni ya 30 billion haiwezi kufanyika ndani ya SHA. We will make sure,” Ruto said.
Ruto revealed that nearly 1,000 health facilities have already been closed after being found complicit in the scam. However, he insisted that shutting them down is not enough.
“I want to promise the people of Kenya that we have already closed almost 1,000 health facilities. We are not going to stop at closing the facilities. We are also going to make sure that they refund the money if ever they have been paid,” he added.
