SHA appoints 23 new assistant directors across key departments
By Kiprono Keileb, October 31, 2025The Social Health Authority (SHA) has appointed 23 new Assistant Directors in a move aimed at strengthening its management team and improving service delivery in Kenya’s healthcare system.
In a statement released on X on Friday, October 31, 2025, the Authority stated that the appointments followed a competitive and transparent recruitment process that commenced in July of this year.
According to the Board, the new team brings a wealth of experience to SHA’s leadership structure. It will play a central role in scaling up operations to achieve its core mandate of providing financial risk protection and ensuring quality healthcare access for all Kenyans.
“The Social Health Authority (SHA) Board is pleased to announce the appointment of twenty-three new Assistant Directors. These significant appointments follow a competitive and transparent recruitment process that began on 29th July, 2025,” read the statement.
The new assistant directors will serve across key departments, including Legal Services, Finance, Supply Chain, Human Resources, Benefits Management, Customer Experience, ICT, and Internal Audit. Others will take up positions in Fund Management, Registration and Compliance, and Provider Management.

SHA said the expansion of its senior management team marks an important step in improving efficiency, transparency, and accountability as the Authority continues implementing critical health reforms under the Universal Health Coverage (UHC) programme.

“This expansion of the senior management team injects a wealth of experience into the Authority’s ranks. These new leaders are crucial for enhancing operational capacity across all Directorates as SHA scales up to achieve its core mandate: providing comprehensive financial risk protection and ensuring quality healthcare access for all Kenyan residents,” the statement added.
The Authority also expressed appreciation to its staff for their continued support during the transition period that has seen SHA restructure its operations following the phasing out of the National Health Insurance Fund (NHIF).
“The Board takes this opportunity to express its deep appreciation to the dedicated staff for their unwavering support and commitment to the interim senior management team throughout this critical transition period,” said Abdi Mohamed, the Chairperson of the Board.
The appointments are expected to enhance the rollout of SHA’s nationwide programmes and strengthen Kenya’s journey toward accessible, affordable, and equitable healthcare for all.
