A University of Nairobi student was brutally murdered and her hands doused in acid before her body was dumped in a bush in Mwiki, Nairobi.

The body of Mercy Kwamboka, a 20-year-old Chiromo campus student, was found partially clothed, long after she went missing on September 28, he family said.

The second-year student, who was studying for a Bachelor of Science degree, had broken legs, bruises on her gums and burnt hands.

A toxicology analysis was underway yesterday to establish the nature of the attack and the cause of death.

Kwamboka (pictured above) is believed to have been lured from her house in the Pipeline, Embakasi, area of Nairobi and either kidnapped or poisoned before she was brutally murdered.

Police said they were investigating murder, rape, kidnapping and robbery in the incident.

Several people had been questioned and their statements recorded, said Kasarani Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) boss Justus Ombati.

“We have talked to several people of interest in the case. We will get to the bottom of the murder,” he said.

Kwamboka was also suffering from epilepsy and had left her house in a huff on September 27, her family said.

Her kidnappers might have intended to kill her, as her phone and money were found at the site where her body was discovered.

Her body was severely tortured, with one leg broken and her hands doused in acid, witnesses said.
She left her home late at night after receiving a phone call. Her body was found in Mwiki without trousers, with her mobile phone and a Sh1,000 note lying nearby.

Witnesses described seeing a car at the scene. DCI detectives said no arrests had been made and the motive for the killing had not been established.
