The number of new Coronavirus cases recorded in a day has crossed the 1,000 mark as the third wave continues to wreak havoc across the country. 

Health Cabinet Secretary Mutahi Kagwe, in a statement  released yesterday, said 1,016 cases had been detected from some 6,151 samples conducted in the last 24. Total confirmed cases are now 115,031. 

Out of the confirmed cases 964 are Kenyans while 100 are foreigners. 55 were males and 596 females. The youngest is a two-year old baby while the oldest is 91. 

Notably, seven more patients succumbed pushing the number of deaths to 1,925. 

“Our sincere condolences to families and friends who have lost their loved ones,” he said.

The statement said Nairobi leads with 681 new cases followed by Kiambu (93), Nakuru (69), Uasin Gishu (40), Kisumu (25), Kajiado (23), Busia (20) and Machakos 17 among others. 

A total of 709 patients are currently admitted in various health facilities countrywide while 2,223 are under the home based isolation and care programme. 

The number of patients in the Intensive Care Units stands at 104, Kagwe stated. 

On a positive note,185 patients have been discharged after recovering while 149 are under home-based care.
