Police have arrested seven people in connection with the murder of Joel Juma, a Fourth-Year Jomo Kenyatta University of Agriculture and Technology (Jkuat) student.

Juma, 23, was fatally stabbed twice in the chest and stomach in the presence of his girlfriend by an unknown group of armed gang on Tuesday at night before the assailants fled into the darkness.

The Industrial Chemistry student was on his way to pick a book from his colleague a few blocks away when the two were attacked.

Two of the attackers are said to have descended on the deceased with blows and kicks before stabbing him twice leaving him lying on the ground in a pool of blood while the third assailant manhandled his girlfriend who was not carrying any valuables.

She was, however, not injured during the incident.

The assailants are said to have stolen Juma’s phone and other valuables during the attack.

Security guards who heard the altercation rushed him to a local dispensary where he was pronounced dead on arrival.

Yesterday, infuriated students marched to Juja sub-county security offices where they demanded to be addressed on the measures taken by police to not only arrest the murderers but also avert further incidents.

Led by Lyra Wanjiku, a Statistics and Commerce student, the students protested heightened insecurity in Juja.

Juja Sub-County Directorate of Criminal Investigations Officer  boss Richard Mwaura said of the  seven suspects, police have narrowed down to two of them who will face murder charges at Thika Law Courts today.

“We arrested seven suspects and after thorough investigations, we have established that two of them were involved in the killing of Juma,” he said.
