Oparanya’s case mention

Anti-corruption court will today mention former Kakamega Governor Wycliffe Oparanya‘s case. The former county boss was arrested by EACC on August 23, 2023, before his release.

In this case, EACC was ordered to release any devices or documents that are not relevant to the case after Chief Magistrate Thomas Nzyuki directed both the prosecution and counsels representing Oparanya to have a joint meeting and agree on the documents that are relevant to the case so that they can be retained.

The Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission had obtained search warrants and seized various items belonging to Oparanya.

In his application, the former county boss claimed the sleuths seized several documents as well as computers, mobile phones and cash contrary to what the orders required.

“The orders did not authorise anyone to seize and carry any mobile phones and computers belonging to other persons who are not parties to the proceedings,” Oparanya said.

Judges’ annual colloquium

Judges’ Colloquium at Whitesands, Mombasa continues.

The Colloquium is an annual event organised to allow Kenya’s judges to interact with each other and their counterparts abroad on the common challenges of judicial practice.

This is according to Justice P. Kihara Kariuki, the Director of the Judiciary Training Institute that has organised the event.

Law Society of Kenya (LSK), Kenya Law and the Kenya Judiciary Academy (KJA) are among the law institutions presenting at the ongoing Judges Colloquium.

Supreme Court judge Justice Isaac Lenaola – who was among the seven-judge bench that heard the Azimio Coalition’s election results petition, will be among the judges in attendance.

The colloquium will end on Friday 8 September.

MCA Palapala’s pretrial 

The incitement case involving Kitusuru MCA Alvin Palapala will today be mentioned for pre-trial.

This is after the MCA was charged in July with inciting the public to demonstrate over high cost of living before he was released on a Ksh70,000 bond.
