Senator Mundigi met with ‘Wantam’ chants, struggles to address constituents in Embu

By , September 14, 2025

Embu County Senator Alexander Mundigi was met with ‘Wantam’ chants after attempting to address his constituents.

This incident happened during a movie premiere at Moi Stadium on Saturday, September 13, 2025.

As has been a trend with most government-allied politicians, whenever they want to address a gathering, they begin by calling and endorsing President William Ruto’s second term by trying to energise the crowd by shouting ‘Harambee’, and then the crowd responds by saying ‘Tutam’.

Sadly for Mundigi, he was met with an uphill task; his calls were met with ‘Wantam’ chants, a slogan used by the opposition to spell doom for the current administration.

Every call from the senator was met with a ‘wantam’ slogan, forcing the senator to quicken his speech.

This comes at a time when the Mount Kenya region has become hostile towards the current administration ever since the former deputy president, Rigathi Gachagua, was impeached.

The region has expressed its fury towards leaders who seem to align themselves with the government by singing anti-government chants to them.

Even the president himself, days after Gachagua’s impeachment, while attending a church service in the county, was heckled by the residents.

Afterwards, a series of his speeches were rejected, with nobody wanting to listen to his addresses or the emissaries he used to send to represent him.

Osoro’s encounter

The same also befell his National Assembly counterpart, South Mugirango MP Silvanus Osoro, while attending a Gusii cultural festival at Carnivore, whereupontaking the stage, they all began chanting ‘wantam’.

The festival, held at Carnivore Grounds on Saturday, August 13, 2025, brought together Abagusii natives to celebrate their heritage.

Silvanus Osoro was among several politicians allied to the government who attended the event. Other notable figures included former nominated senator Millicent Omanga and nominated senator Esther Okenyuri, among others.

After the heckles intensified, the MC ordered the politicians to take back their seats as the crowd became increasingly unsettled.

This is not the first time the region has expressed its fury over the current regime. Months earlier, the former prime minister was heckled at Gusii Stadium after landing to attend a match, leading to destruction and chaos on the playground.
