Senator Methu dares Ruto to deal with Duale amid SHA controversy

By , August 26, 2025

Nyandarua County Senator John Methu has challenged President William Ruto to crack the whip on Health Cabinet Secretary Aden Duale over fraudulent dealings in the Social Health Authority (SHA).

In a statement on Tuesday, August 26, 2025, Senator Methu has challenged the Head of State to crack the whip if he is indeed serious about his war against corruption.

Senator Methu’s call to Ruto comes amid a fast-moving saga revolving around Kenya’s new health insurer, with CS Duale at the helm of the Health Ministry. In August, the ministry announced the suspension of 40 facilities after detecting fraudulent claims submitted to the SHA, its strongest action yet since the transition to the National Health Insurance Fund (NHIF). The scandal further deepened after it emerged that SHA money was wired to ghost hospitals. A dispensary was massively mentioned, sparking public uproar.

After President William Ruto announced the formation of a new Multi-Agency Team (MAT), which will bring together key state institutions in a renewed effort to curb graft, economic crimes, and misuse of public resources, Senator Methu has dared President Ruto to start with taking action against his close ally in the Cabinet, CS Aden Duale.

In his Monday, August 25, 2025 media briefing, CS Duale announced that close to Ksh10.6 billion linked to SHA were flagged. His statement has sparked fury among the public as the state seeks to curb corruption in public institutions.

This development has prompted Senator John Methu to break his silence;

”We’re waiting to see how the saint who is looking for MPs receiving bribes will deal with Aden Duale, who has been caught in the act!” Methu took to his X account on Tuesday, August 26, 2025.

Still on the SHA controversies, lawyer Willis Otieno has also questioned President William Ruto’s recent assertion that he is a “consumer of raw intelligence,” arguing that the Head of State cannot plead ignorance over the Social Health Authority (SHA) crisis.

Taking to his X account on Tuesday, August 26, 2025, Otieno said by calling himself a consumer of raw intel, Ruto “signals he sees everything: the SHA fake hospitals, the dodgy contracts, the looting… It’s like saying: ‘I read the receipts, but I also write them.” However, Health Cabinet Secretary Aden Duale has linked the SHA controversies to propaganda, blackmail and media interference, promising to streamline the country’s health sector for better services to the public.

”No amount of propaganda or blackmail will deter us from fixing our healthcare system. We know saboteurs of SHA have recruited several groups, including some sections of the media, to advance their agenda. Let them be warned: We are fixing this thing regardless of the noise! Our work has just begun. We will not rest until every Kenyan has access to quality, affordable, and dignified healthcare, free from the burden of fraud,” CS Duale took to his X account on Monday, August 25, 2025.
