Makueni Senator Dan Maanzo has revealed that motorcycle riders who shot and killed city lawyer Kyalo Mbobu as he was heading to his Karen home on September 9, 2025, may have been sent to carry out the execution.

Speaking during a live TV interview on Thursday, September 11, 2025, Maanzo indicated that Mbobu was a professional person who conducted his business above board and that he never had quarrels.

“As many people as possible will give information and then the police will be able to narrow down on whoever person who threatened him before or the dealings which were going sour,” Maanzo said.

Sent by someone else

“I don’t think he had any grudge with the motorcycle riders; he was not a person who picked quarrels with people. Chances are high that these people were sent by somebody else.”

Maanzo equally disclosed that the slain lawyer handled complex and risky cases, a situation that could have exposed him to danger in the line of his work.

“Mbobu was a daring person who would do cases which were very complex. Sometimes when you are dealing with cases involving a lot of money or involving land, there is a likelihood of being in danger,” Maanzo remarked.

“It is not the first time advocates have been threatened or killed when they are involved in cases, but we are yet to know the finer details of what else could have gone wrong.”

Unmask killers

He, however, expressed confidence in the investigative agencies’ ability to unravel the perpetrators of the murder.

“Since he worked at the Political Parties Dispute Tribunal (PPDT), there could be grudges. While speculation is wide on what could have happened, I believe that with time, we are going to narrow down on certain issues and be able to trace the people he met that day and persons of interest,” Maanzo stated.

Kyalo Mbobu was shot dead along Magadi Road, near the junction at Galleria, as he was heading to his home in Karen.

Preliminary reports indicate that the lawyer was accosted by assailants riding on a motorcycle, who opened fire on him before fleeing the scene of the crime as motorists watched in shock.

The city lawyer was driving his Land Cruiser vehicle at the time of the brazen murder, and detectives spent significant time processing the crime scene for leads, hours after the fatal shooting.
