Nominated senator Miraj Abdilahi has appealed to a section of Mombasa county politicians to stop inciting residents to reject the government’s affordable housing projects in the region.

In reference to the recent national housing project in Changamwe, Abdilahi said the government has no bad intention asking people to move out to pave way for modern housing units.

Last week the government evicted hundreds of tenants in the National Housing Corporation (NHC) houses in Changamwe leaving over 80 families’ homeless.

The hammer fell on the hapless tenants after the Environment and Land Court dismissed their case and gave NHC the go-ahead to demolish their houses.

At least 20,000 units will be put at the NHC land in Changamwe.

But while responding to Mombasa Woman Representative Zamzam Mohamed who condemned the demolition, Abdilahi said politicians should stop politicizing the housing plan.

“They are going round accusing the government for coming up with housing projects, while in their own capacity they have not honored their pledges they made to electorates,”Abdilahi

Abdilahi was responding to sentiments by Mombasa women rep Zamzam Mohamed who castigated the government for demolishing houses under the national housing corporation.
