Nandi Senator has called for swift action following the reported invasion of Mandera County by Jubaland forces.

While addressing the press on Wednesday, September 3, 2025, he expressed disappointment over the continued presence of the foreign troops.

He stated that the invasion was a clear violation of Kenya’s territorial integrity and urged the Ministry of Defence, working together with the Kenya Defence Forces, to ensure that no foreign forces operate within the country.

According to him, the foreign troops in Mandera have violated Kenya’s boundaries and are fugitives of war who should be arrested and court-martialled for undermining the sovereignty of the republic.

“I am told in Mandera, there is an invasion of foreign troops. I think that is a clear violation of the territorial integrity of this country, and I want to believe that the defence ministry is working with KDF to ensure that we don’t have any foreign troops within the country. The foreign troops have violated the integrity and boundaries of Kenya in Mandera are fugitives of war; they must be arrested, and they must be court-martialled for violating the territorial integrity of the Republic of Kenya,” Cherargei stated

He further challenged security agencies and the KDF to move with speed and safeguard the territorial integrity of the nation, adding that once Parliament resumes from recess, the matter will be given priority.

“I want to challenge the security agencies and the necessary KDF forces to ensure that we don’t violate the territorial integrity, and I know if Parliament resumes from recess, this will be a matter of priority,” he added.

Message to relevant authorities

He acknowledged that the Governor of Mandera had already issued a statement but insisted that the Ministry of Defence or the KDF should also make an official communication to address public fears and prevent anyone from using the situation for political gain.

“What we have seen is a statement from the Mandera government. We also want a statement from either the defence ministry or the KDF to alleviate the fears so that nobody can take advantage of the happenings for political scores.”

The former deputy president also recently called for the same as he slammed the local leaders for remaining silent as the forces continue to pose insecurity in the county.
