Senate forms crucial teams to kick off its official work

The Senate has fully constituted its departmental and sessional committees, paving the way for the official commencement of business.

Senators Alexander Mundigi (Embu), Wamatinga Wahome (Nyeri), Soipan Tuya (nominated), Miraj Abdulahi (nominated, James Lomenen (Turkana) and Shakila Abdalla (nominated) have been selected to the Parliamentary Powers and Privileges Committee.

In a motion tabled by Majority Leader Aaron Cheruiyot (Kericho), the senators also nominated Samson Cherargei (Nandi), John Methu (Nyandarua), Mariam Omar (nominated), Julius Mwenda (Meru), Moses Kajwang’ (Homa Bay), Fatuma Dullo (Isiolo), Richard Onyonka (Kisii), Edwin Sifuna (Nairobi) and Omtatah Okoiti (Busia) to County Public Accounts Committee.

 The oversight committee on County Public Investments and Special Funds Committee will comprise Kipchumba Murkomen (Elgeyo Marakwet), Karungo Thang’wa (Kiambu), Maureen Mutinda (nominated), Miraj Abdullahi (nominated), Eddy Oketch (Migori), Ledama Olekina (Narok), Hamida, Kibwana (nominated), Tom Ojienda (Kisumu) and Godfrey Osotsi (Vihiga).

The Sessional Committee is expected to execute the Senate’s mandate, pursuant to provisions of Article 96 (3), to exercise oversight over national revenue allocated to county governments.

Previously, both PAC and PIC were joined together under the County Public Accounts and Investment Committee, but have now been separated.

The House has also nominated Julius Mwenda (Tharaka Nithi), Danson Mungatana (Tana River), Gloria Orwoba (nominated), Joyce Korir (nominated), Julius Murgor (West Pokot), Daniel Maanzo (Makueni), Mohamed Faki (Mombasa), Betty Montet (nominated) and Stewart Madzayo (Kilifi) to serve in the Delegated Legislation Committe.

The Finance and Budget team comprises Ali Roba (Mandera), Maureen Mutinda (nominated), Boni Khalwale (Kakamega), Joyce Korir (nominated), Tabitha Karanja (Nakuru), Richard Onyonka (Kisii), Shakila Abdalla (nominated), Eddy Oketch (Migori), and Mohamed Faki (Mombasa).
