Security agencies given Sh168b in new budget

The government has allocated Sh167.9 billion to strengthen security agencies by equipping them to increase their effectiveness and rapid response to incidents of crime.
The allocations to the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI), Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission, Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions (ODPP) have increased slightly compared to 2019-2020 financial year allocations.
Treasury Cabinet Secretary Ukur Yatani allocated the funds to the Kenya Defence Forces (KDF),National Intelligence Service (NIS) and for police modernisation, leasing of police motor vehicles, National Communication and Surveillance System, and equipping national Forensic Laboratory.
DCI’s budget o has been increased by Sh800 million and now allocated Sh7.9 billion for criminal investigations.
Medical insurance
“Ensuring a safe and secure environment is vital in our drive to attain economic transformation,” the CS said yesterday. Another Sh3.4 billion has been set aside for medical insurance for the National Police Service and the Kenya Prisons Service.
Allocation has been reduced by half since last year Treasury allocated Sh6.9 billion for the scheme.
