Section of Ukambani leaders offer to give Ruto tips on how to secure second term
By Luke Oluoch, September 29, 2025A delegation of UDA grassroots leaders from the Kamba community living in Nairobi has demanded a meeting with President William Ruto to make him achieve his vision for a two-term president.
Led by Patrick Musili Mbangula, a former Minority leader in Nairobi’s county assembly and a gubernatorial aspirant for the 2027 elections, the leaders presented their plea to the United Democratic Alliance (UDA) Secretary General, Hassan Omar.
This comes days after Lang’ata MP Phelix Odiwuor, alias Jalang’o, predicted President Ruto’s re-election.
Seeking audience
“We know the president listens to you and speaks daily about the affairs of the ruling party. They have asked me to tell you that if you get a chance to meet him, tell him that they are seeking to meet him and have a meeting on how they will make him a two-term president,” he told the SG.
While affirming their support of the Kenya Kwanza government, Mbangula expressed confidence that the delegation would remain united under the ruling party and persuade more people to join the party.
“The delegation you see here is not from Wiper. It is from UDA. They have told me that they want to persuade more people to join UDA and increase the number of our community in the coming elections,” he added.
His remarks come as the government continues its foray into the larger Ukambani region that overwhelmingly voted for the opposition leader, Raila Odinga, in the recent election cycles.

Elsewhere, Kigumo MP Joseph Kamau Munyoro claimed that Ruto’s chances in the 2027 elections could be significantly affected if ODM party leader Raila Odinga withdraws his support.
During his recent charm offensive to the region, President William Ruto blamed the area’s leadership for making the region lag in terms of development.
In his response to the elected UDA grassroots leaders from the Kamba community living in Nairobi, Hassan Omar recognised the significant contribution of grassroots leaders in enhancing the party’s visibility, voice, and equity.
Furthermore, the secretary general encouraged these leaders to persist in their efforts to garner support for Kariobangi North (Nairobi) and Mumbuni North (Machakos) UDA candidates and all other UDA candidates in the forthcoming by-elections scheduled for November 27, 2025.
He also reaffirmed their commitment to establishing a cohesive and enduring relationship with the Kamba community.
The party officials in attendance included: former Wiper official Mary Mutinga, now a member of the UDA National Elections Board (NEB), Katile Mwangangi, NEC member and nominated Member of the County Assembly of Nairobi; Joseph Mulili, Director of Finance.
Others were Nathaniel Mong’are, Director of Political Affairs; Rob Jillo, Director of Communication; Grace Gichovi, Director of Events, and Sebastain Mwangangi, the Special Advisor to the Secretary General.
