Salasya warns Wetang’ula of impeachment
By Mabonga Makhanu, August 23, 2025Mumias East Member of Parliament (MP) Peter Salasya has come out to threaten the National Assembly Speaker, Moses Wetang’ula, with an impeachment motion should he continue to attend women empowerment forums.
In a post shared on his social media on Saturday, August 23, 2025, he urged Wetang’ula to relook at his roles as Speaker as outlined in the Constitution or face impeachment, not because of anything personal, but, according to Salasya, for being the cause of the loss of legitimacy and public trust in the 13th Parliament.
“I must say this without fear of contradiction. He must go and read the principles of speakership, or we shall impeach him not on the basis of fighting him but on the basis of a person who has contributed to the 13th parliament losing its legitimacy and public trust.” He added
He compared Wetang’ula to his Senate counterpart, Amason Kingi, saying that Kingi is never seen in such forums and understands his role as Speaker. For Wetang’ula, however, Salasya claimed that he is all over women’s empowerment forums, even donning a cape written ‘Tutam’, a phrase used by politicians allied to the president endorsing him for a second term.
“When I see the two. I see one authority who never attends women’s economic empowerment or political rallies and understands the work of a speaker. When I see the other, he is all over in women’s economic empowerment rallies, arrogant, and puts on a Tutam cape in their political rallies,” Salasya said.
Onslaught on Wetang’ula
Salasya has in the recent past been attacking the Speaker. This came after he was denied a chance to speak during a motion in the National Assembly, with the Speaker telling him that he gives priority to members who frequently attend parliamentary sittings on a daily basis and not those who often miss out.
This angered Salasya since the motion that was being debated was topical and one he had been very vocal about. The MPs were reacting to the recent onslaught directed at the parliament by the executive and former prime minister Raila Odinga’s call for the scrapping of CDF, with the funds given to counties as the MPs resume their roles as mandated by the constitution.
