Salasya dismisses Sifuna and Babu Owino, claims he is the most qualified to lead
By Mabonga Makhanu, October 23, 2025Mumias East MP Peter Salasya has come out to dismiss talks of Nairobi Senator Edwin Sifuna and Embakasi East MP Babu Owino having higher chances of taking over the leadership of the country, saying that he is the most suitable.
In a video posted on his social media accounts on Thursday, October 23, 2025, he said that the above leaders have no proven developmental track record and are known for “talking a lot with little action”.
He went ahead to state that he is the one supposed to be the team leader of Sifuna and Babu Owino, with him being the flag bearer as the rest throw their support behind him.
According to Salasya, who seemed angry after being left out of the equation of Babu Owino and Sifuna’s leadership takeover, he said that unlike him, who goes to the ground and sells his manifestos to Kenyans, the other leaders are fond of making noise on social media with little action, saying that he can’t be compared to a person like Edwin Sifuna.
“I am the one supposed to be the team leader of that team because I am the only leader who has been able to traverse the whole country; my politics is about going to the ground, not politicking on social media,” said Salasya.
“Sifuna needs to come and work together with me because I am developmentally orientated; he should join my team and help popularise my bid,” he added.
Muluka’s view

This comes days after political analyst and communication expert Barack Muluka named Babu Owino, Edwin Sifuna, and Caleb Amisi as young leaders who have higher chances in the Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) party and the ability to take over from where the former Prime Minister Raila Odinga left off.
“Edwin Sifuna of this world, Caleb Amisi, and Babu Owino of this world – who are the people we will be watching as a country, and whether they can step out of the shadows and carry on with that engagement?” Muluka noted.

According to Muluka, the country is now watching closely to see whether these emerging leaders will rise above political shadows and embody the resilience, courage, and reformist spirit that characterised Raila’s decades-long career.
He concluded that the future of ODM and the continuation of Raila’s political ideals will largely depend on how these young leaders navigate the post-Raila era, whether they will unite around shared values or allow internal divisions to weaken the movement that Raila built.
