Rutto leads Bomet leaders in mourning 3 children killed in fire tragedy
By David Nthua, July 2, 2026Various leaders from Bomet County have mourned three children who died after a fire broke out in Kimatisio village, Nyangores Ward, Chepalungu Constituency.
The tragedy claimed the lives of a seven-year-old child and six-year-old twins who were said to have been sleeping in a kitchen when the fire broke out.
The incident has left the family and the wider Chepalungu community in mourning as leaders continue to send condolence messages to the bereaved family.
Rutto mourns
Former Bomet Governor Isaac Ruto said he had received the news of the tragedy with deep sadness.

“I have learnt with a heavy heart of the devastating fire tragedy that claimed the lives of three innocent young children – a seven-year-old and twins aged 6 at Kimatisio in Chepalungu,” Ruto said.
The former governor described the deaths as a heartbreaking loss to the family and the entire community.
“This heartbreaking loss has deeply saddened us all, and our thoughts and prayers are with the family and the entire community following this unimaginable tragedy. Mutyo missing,” he added.
Chepalungu MP mourns
Chepalungu MP Victor Kipngetich Koech also mourned the children, saying he had received the sad news after the three lost their lives when fire consumed the kitchen where they were spending the night.
“I have received the sad news of the demise of three innocent souls this morning after they lost their lives when fire consumed the kitchen they were spending the night in at Kimatisio, Nyangores Ward, Chepalungu Constituency,” Koech said.
The MP sent his condolences to the bereaved family, describing the loss of young children as painful and devastating.

“I extend my heartfelt condolences to the bereaved family during this time of immense loss.
“Losing such young and promising children, 7-year-old and 6-year-old twins, is truly painful and devastating.
“May God be with the family as they overcome this loss. We shall stand together with them during this hard time,” he added.
Toto’s message
Bomet Woman Representative Linet Toto also joined the leaders in mourning the three children.
“I am deeply saddened by the tragic fire incident in Kimatisio Village, Nyangores Ward, Chepalungu, which claimed the lives of three innocent children, a 7-year-old and 6-year-old twins,” Toto said.

She extended condolences to the family and the wider community, asking God to comfort them during the painful moment.
“I extend my heartfelt condolences to the bereaved family and the entire community during this difficult time.
May God grant you strength and comfort as you mourn this painful loss. May the souls of the departed children rest in eternal peace,” she added.
