Ruto’s aide Farouk Kibet sounds alarm over proliferation of illicit brew in Eldoret
By Luke Oluoch, September 6, 2025President William Ruto’s aide, Faruk Kibet, has expressed concern over the surge in illicit brew in Eldoret, which he says is affecting the livelihoods of men in the county.
Speaking in Kesses constituency, Uasin Gishu County, on Saturday, September 6, 2025, Kibet noted that the victims of the illicit ethanol were abdicating their important role at home, including fulfilling their conjugal responsibilities.
Sale of ethanol
“I hear that the OCPD and other officers here are colluding in the sale of ethanol that is killing people. I want to put them on notice. I have heard that once you consume it, you fall asleep for five consecutive days. We are going to name them. We hear the lorries are allowed to use shortcuts to escape,” he cautioned.
The aide put authorities on notice, warning against colluding with the distributors of the the illicit liquor
“I want to put those tasked with controlling the illicit liquor on notice. The OCPD is allowing the lorries ferrying the poison to kill Kenyans. You have to crack down on this. What kind of liquor makes men sleep for five days? I hear they are also abandoning their women. Stop chasing Chang’aa sellers and soliciting money from them. Let those lorries be nabbed and the poison be destroyed,” he charged.
His concerns come barely a couple of days after the National Police Service (NPS) confirmed that officers in Eldoret impounded a vehicle ferrying a large consignment of illicit brew.
In a statement released through its verified X handle on Monday, 1 September 2025, NPS said the operation was mounted after officers received a timely tip-off while on patrol.
The consignment was nabbed in the Asis area of the city as officers acting on intelligence intercepted a Toyota Corolla.
“Upon searching, they discovered five hundred (500) litres of chang’aa, which was packed in polythene pouches and plastic bottles,” the NPS statement read in parts.
The individuals found with the vehicle were escorted to Eldoret Police Station for further processing as the investigation continues.
Crackdown on illicit brews
NPS emphasised that the recovery is part of an ongoing nationwide crackdown on illicit brews, with the issue becoming a menace due to its impact on health and safety.
