As his inauguration day nears, President-elect William Ruto comes bearing more promises, pledges, and threats.

Ruto, speaking during an interdenominational church service at Maua Stadium, Meru County, vowed not to turn a blind eye to cartels sending strict warnings to them.

This, he says will be his first assignment in the office.

“Msikue na wasiwasi na wale mabroker na macartel wasiwatishe, mimi mmenipatia kiboko, hawa watu nitawanyorosha.

“Leave it to me. Nikiweka bibibilia tu chini on Tuesday, ni mimi na wao. Kama kuna mtu hapa anajua cartel ni ndugu yako ama rafiki mpatie notice,” he said

(Don’t worry about cartels and brokers, I shall deal with them. Soon as I’m sworn in, I’m waging war on them. If you know of any, send them a notice)

Ruto was addressing the plight of miraa farmers.

While promising to revive the business, he says he has scheduled a meeting with the Somali President whom he shall discuss the exportation of the plant.

Tayari niko na mkutano na rais wa Somalia wiki hii na baadhi ya mambo ni biashara ya miraa.”
