Deputy President Willam Ruto on Monday visited West Pokot landslide victims enduring harsh weather conditions that had made Interior CS Fred Matiang’i back off, earlier in the day.

In a tweeted statement by the Ministry of Interior, Matiang’i was accompanied by his devolution counterpart Eugene Wamalwa and Inspector General of Police Hillary Mutyambai.

The three were forced to land at Eldoret, citing harsh weather conditions.

“Due to adverse weather conditions, a delegation of state officers, including Dr. Fred Matiangi, Eugene Wamalwa, G_NPS and the RC has been forced to land in Eldoret en route to W. Pokot,” read the statement part.

In his visit to Kapenguria Referral Hospital, Ruto consoled with the landslide victims and assured them of government support.

Ruto was accompanied by Elgeyo Marakwet Senator Kipchumba Murkomen among other leaders from the region.

Landslides hit three villages of West Pokot on November 23, killing at least 43 people and displacing hundreds of others.

Some 48 hours after the incident was reported, recovery efforts were still ongoing.
