Ruto urges clergy to stand in prayer against evil spirits disturbing national peace
By Steve Ireri, July 6, 2025President William Ruto has issued a heartfelt appeal to religious leaders across Kenya to join hands in earnest prayer, beseeching divine intervention against the evil forces he believes are responsible for the unrest and chaos currently gripping the nation.
Speaking when he attended a church service at the ACK Diocese of Embu on Sunday, July 6, 2025, the Head of State called upon Christian leaders and other faith figures to collaborate in spiritual warfare aimed at expelling the malevolent spirits that fuel violence, destruction of property, and social disorder.
“I want to humbly request religious leaders, especially Christian leaders and others, to unite and pray fervently for our nation so that the evil spirit causing violence, destruction of property, confusion, and unrest may be defeated in our beloved country, Kenya,” Ruto said.
He emphasised that Kenya’s future depends on peace and stability, underscoring the need for collective efforts to transform the nation and foster development.
“We desire a peaceful country. It is only then that we can make progress and bring about meaningful change to our nation,” he added.

The president expressed gratitude to the people of Embu for their warm reception and pledged to return to the region due to its significant developmental potential.
He said that he was pleased with Embu but refrained from directly addressing the intense political tensions that have characterised the county under Governor Cecily Mbarire’s leadership.
“Thank you very much for welcoming me here in Embu. I will return soon because of the developmental matters concerning this area. I wish you all blessings and prosperity,” Ruto concluded.
Ruto’s call comes amid escalating political tensions marked by massive protests, as Kenyans condemned the government over the killings of peaceful protesters, including the death of blogger Albert Ojwang, while in police custody.
State House church
In the same address, the head of state strongly dismissed reports circulating online that the church being built within the State House is a billion-shilling project, urging Kenyans to stop spreading propaganda and to respect the sanctity of the House of God.
Ruto expressed frustration over what he termed as malicious attempts to politicise the construction of the new State House church, which he clarified is intended to serve the spiritual needs of families residing within the compound, as well as their children who attend Sunday school.
“May the devil be defeated. Now this bishop has shown me a church building they are currently constructing. It has several floors—more than I can even count. The bishop has informed me that the entire project will cost three hundred and fifty million shillings. Now let me ask you—can a church that seats only three hundred people possibly cost one billion? Let us stop spreading propaganda, cheap talk, and hatred. Why are some people so bitter about a church built for the worship of God?”
