Deputy President William Ruto has once again banked on the dynasty narrative as he popularizes his bid for the country’s top seat ahead of the August 2022 general elections. 

Speaking at Malava town in Kakamega county on Saturday, September 18 Ruto accused President Uhuru Kenyatta and Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) party leader Raila Odinga of betrayal stating that he campaigned for the two when they vied for the presidency.

The DP who had joined congregants of the African Church of the Holy Spirit Dumbeni, Malava for a church service highlighted the crimes against humanity criminal case he faced at the International Criminal Court (ICC) in Hague, stating that he was almost locked up after he rooted for a Raila presidency in 2007. 

“I campaigned for Raila Odinga in 2007 to the point I was almost locked up in Hague. I helped my friend Uhuru Kenyatta become President in the 2013 and 2017 general elections. All these happened in broad daylight,” Ruto said to a welcoming and excited crowd.

The DP further said that he joined hands with President Uhuru and helped him win the presidency in the 2013 and 2017 general elections only for the president to enter into a truce with Raila that saw Uhuru turn his back on him because he hails from a nondescript background.

“Now, they have teamed up to lock me out of the presidency, claiming my father was a nobody in Kenya. Even the kid of a single mother can become President in this country. Let them go away,” Ruto said. 

In defending his bid for the presidency, Ruto said that his intention of being president come 2022 is filed by the urge to change the lives of the poor who have been left out in development.
