President William Ruto has promised the youth of Taita Taveta County two thousand job opportunities in an iron ore factory that he says will open by August 2024.

Ruto, who has been on a development tour of the coastal region across Kwale, Kilifi, Mombasa, and Tana River counties, said the iron ore found in Taita Taveta is of top quality, and now a company has decided to invest in its extraction.

Mimi ninakuja mwezi ujao hili kuweka kiwanda hapa ya iron ore. Tulibadilisha sheria mwaka jana na tukasema hatutaki kuagiza kutoka nchi zingine ile inaitwa bellets ya chuma. Last year, tukafunga mlango na madirisha.

Unajua tumekuwa tukiambiwa eti iron ore ya Taita Taveta si mzuri, sijui ooh iko na nini lakini hio ilikuwa porojo,” Ruto said as he addressed Taita residents on Monday, July 29, 2024.

He asked the locals not to choose the kind of work they want to do but to grab whatever presented itself at the moment.

Mko tayari kwenda kufanya kazi pale? Ama nyinyi ni wale wa kuchagua jembe.

Si tulikubaliana kazi ni kazi, mko tayari? Pale tunahitaji ma accountants, tunahitaji engineers, na tunahitaji kila mtu aende afanye kazi pale,” he continued.

He said he would be launching the project himself as he assured the locals of government efforts to create more job opportunities.

“I will be here in person, kukuja kuanzisha hio kampuni,” he concluded.

Sponsored training

Earlier in Mombasa, Ruto promised sponsored training for the youth in the fish industry in order to improve their technical know-how.

Serekali imetoa mpango ya kuwatapia training free of charge. Kila kijana atasomeshwa bila kulipishwa pesa yoyote,” the president said.

Ruto’s prominent message on his tour has been job creation and efforts taken by his government to achieve the same.
