President William Ruto has heaped praise on Molo Member of Parliament (MP) Kimani Kuria, citing him as the kind of leader needed for the nation to achieve the needed development.

Speaking in Elburgon Molo constituency on Monday, October 27, 2025, Ruto noted the pivotal role of the Kuria-chaired National Assembly Departmental Committee on Finance and National Planning in facilitating important government initiatives such as the affordable housing plans.

“This is a brave man. He has really helped me in Parliament to facilitate important projects of the government. I must commend you, the people of Molo, for giving me such a brave young warrior,” Ruto stated.

The president noted that Kuria’s commitment to a cause had enabled the government to achieve key projects despite huge backlash from the public.

Finance Bill 2024

The Kuria-led committee has been at centre of controversial and unpopular laws and amendments in the 13th parliament, including the Finance Bill 2024, a legislation that proposed major tax hikes on critical commodities, leading to massive youth-led protests in 2024.

“He has helped us undertake this project across the nation. If there is anybody with a strong standing is this man. He has stood firm despite the much criticism that has been directed at him. He stated.

The president also defended his government’s Affordable Housing Programme, dismissing those opposing it as people “lacking sense.”

He questioned why anyone would want the housing initiative stopped when it has created thousands of jobs for young people. “Mnasema tuendelee na kujenga ama tusiendelee? Kuna watu wengine wako na akili kidogo wanasema tusimamishe. Na kabla hawajatuambia tusimamishe watuambie hawa vijana wote watafanya kazi gani tukisimamisha hizi kazi, wako na kazi ingine ya kuwapatia?” Ruto said.

He noted that the programme is not only meant to provide decent homes but also to create employment for thousands of youth across the country.
