Ruto opens 19th Ambassadors and High Commissioners Conference in Nairobi
President William Ruto has officially opened the 19th Ambassadors and High Commissioners’ Conference in Nairobi, emphasising renewed efforts to position Kenya as a prime destination for investment and a trusted global partner.
Ruto, who attended the event on Saturday, March 28, 2026, said Kenya is focused on strengthening its diplomatic presence and advancing national interests in an increasingly complex global environment.
“Our goal is to position Kenya not only as a prime destination for investment, but also as a trusted partner in shaping the future. Opened the 19th Ambassadors and High Commissioners Conference, Nairobi,” Ruto said.
Speaking during the event, President Ruto stated that in the past three years, Kenya has made significant progress in delivering the national transformation agenda, adding that the government has also embarked on a Ksh5 trillion plan to move Kenya towards a first-world economy.
While emphasising the contribution of Kenya’s representatives abroad, Ruto weighed on various ways of achieving this ambition, which require a coordinated whole-of-government approach.
“As we drive reforms at home, our representatives abroad, ambassadors and high commissioners must clearly articulate and position Kenya’s full potential, tell our story with conviction, and convert that promise into partnerships that deliver real results,” Ruto stated.

At the same time, Ruto explained that this requires our representatives to project a credible national image, secure new markets, unlock untapped opportunities, attract investment, and advance Kenya’s strategic interests with clarity and purpose.
“This requires our representatives to project a credible national image, securing new markets; unlock untapped opportunities; attract investment; and advance Kenya’s strategic interests with clarity and purpose,” the President explained.
Meanwhile, the conference, which runs until Monday, March 30, 2026, is being held under the theme “Advancing Kenya’s Interests in a Rapidly Evolving Geopolitical Landscape”.

Similarly, the event brings together Kenya’s diplomatic corps, including Heads of Mission, deputies and consuls-general, to align foreign policy with the country’s development priorities.
The event was also attended by Prime Cabinet Secretary Musalia Mudavadi and Kenya’s ambassador to the United Nations Environment Programme, Mama Ida Odinga.
