Current issues
The President is hosting the media amidst growing concerns from various stakeholders and the youth.
Ruto has recently been subjected to immense pressure from the youth prompting him to decline to assent to the Finance Bill 2024.
Gen Z staged protests in different parts of the country asking the Head of State to reject the Bill over punitive tax measures. Ruto succumbed to pressure and sent back the Bill to Parliament directing that all the clauses therein be deleted.
Moreover, he has pledged to engage them through a multi-sectoral and multistakeholder forum to address their plight.
However, a section of the youth is calling on his administration to address corruption and implement austerity measures to stop the wastage of taxpayers’ money.
The issue of police brutality is also cropping up. Several youths were shot during anti-Finance Bill protests exposing the police service to scrutiny.
However, President William Ruto is expected to use the platform tonight to address the issues raised by the protesting Gen Z.
