President William Ruto led Kenyans in mourning the death of former Embu Senator Lenny Kivuti’s son, Eric Mutugi.

Taking to his official on Monday, December 23, 2024, the head of state sent his message of condolences to the Kivuti’s family and friends, as they try to come to terms with the demise of their loved one.

Ruto in his message stated that Eric’s light and promise had been taken far too soon.

“I join the family of Hon. Lenny Kivuti in mourning the tragic loss of his beloved son, Eric Mutugi. I pray for the Kivuti family during this immensely difficult time. Eric’s light and promise have been taken far too soon, May God grant the family and friends strength, comfort and peace,” Ruto stated.

Joining the president in condoling with Kivuti’s family was Public Service and Human Capital Development Cabinet Secretary Justin Muturi.

Muturi through a statement shared via his official X account on December 23, described Eric’s death as untimely.

“I extend my heartfelt condolences to Hon. Lenny Kivuti and his family following the untimely demise of their beloved son, Eric Mutugi. Losing a child is an unimaginable pain, and my thoughts and prayers are with you during this time of profound sorrow,” Muturi stated.

Lenny Kivuti served as Embu Senator from 2013 to 2017. He previously served as a Member of Parliament, and unsuccessfully contested for the Embu gubernatorial seat in the 2022 General Election.

Kivuti on Sunday, December 22, 2024, disclosed that his son passed away at MP Shah Hospital after a short illness.

He said his family has now cancelled Christmas festivities to plan for Mutugi’s funeral.

“I am very sad. Very sad! I lost my beloved son, Eric Mutugi, at MP Shah Hospital yesterday after a short illness. We canceled our family Christmas festivities. Please join my family in funeral plans for my beloved son. God bless his soul in heaven,” Kivuti said on Facebook.
