President William Ruto has today morning landed in Kitale ahead of his 2-day tour of Trans Nzoia County.

The Head of State was received by Prime Cabinet Secretary Musalia Mudavadi, Trans Nzoia Governor George Natembeya, Senator Allan Chesang, National Assembly Speaker Moses Wetangula, Uasin Gishu Governor Jonathan Bii among other elected leaders from the Western region.

Ruto will commence his tour with an attendance of the episcopal Ordination and installation of Monsignor Henry Juma Odonya as Bishop of the Catholic Diocese of Kitale. The event is currently underway at the Kitale Showground.

The President is expected to inspect and launch several government projects.

Ruto’s Luo-Nyanza tour

His visit comes against the backdrop of a two-day visit to the Luo-Nyanza region last weekend.

During his tour, Ruto visited Homa Bay, Kisumu and Siaya counties at a time he and his allies have heightened an offensive to win the hearts and minds of a region that has always overwhelmingly voted for Raila.

During his two-day tour of the region, the President launched the first phase of the 5,000 affordable housing programmes in Homa Bay county as well as inspected and launched other projects in the region, including commissioning the newly completed Homa Bay Municipal Market.

The visit saw him commission the Jaramogi Oginga Odinga University of Science and Technology, Blue Economy Research Hub and meet local leaders from both sides of the political divide.

Ruto’s allies in the region are said to had prepared a wish list to present to him that included a push for the revival of maritime transport connecting the four riparian counties bordering Lake Victoria, the revival of the sugar and cotton industries, improvement of the Kisumu Airport to an international standard and completion of the ‘Handshake projects’ initiated by retired President Uhuru Kenyatta and Raila.
